Training & Career Development

Training Policy

It is Cabo Drilling Corp.’s policy that all employees will receive training in their specific work tasks to protect their health and safety. Through training, Cabo Drilling shall provide employees with the knowledge and skills they need to do their jobs safely.

From day one, Cabo Drilling Corp. places a priority on the development and use of safe work habits by all employees. Cabo Drilling’s Health and Safety Managers regularly review training practices to ensure federal, provincial, and where applicable, international safety requirements are followed. Cabo’s training is designed to meet or exceed government standards.

The responsibility to ensure that employees have the appropriate training rests with the General Manager for each local division.

While Cabo Drilling Corp. is committed to the further development of its internal training programs, it also recognizes its corporate responsibility to support external programs. To date, Cabo Drilling Corp. has participated in program development at both Northern College in Ontario and Corona College in Newfoundland.

Northern College

Northern College offers a 10-week program designed to give its students a base of skills and knowledge that can be transferred to various exploration industries in mining, oil, and other resources. Backed by Ontario's highest safety standards in the industry and supported by Cabo Drilling Corp., the Northern College program delivers hands-on experience at actual operating mine sites to ensure each of its students receives the training they need for a high-paying diamond drilling career. “This program would not have been possible without the dedication of the Kirkland Lake operation in providing not only equipment and supplies but also guidance and encouragement to our College’s Apprenticeship, Workforce Development and Training team. We found the staff and management at Cabo Drilling to be highly professional in our relationship. It is a pleasure to work with such dedicated and enthusiastic team players.”

Corona College

Students are trained to work in all facets of the industry and participate in various safety orientated programs. Furthermore, a supervised two-week work placement with Cabo Drilling is also offered to help students apply the skills they have learned and gain an even better understanding of this vital and expansive industry. "...without the partnership and cooperation of a company such as Cabo Drilling, we would not be able to offer such extensive training to our students... because of Cabo, our students have learned first hand what it is to be a diamond driller..."
